Hockey player from P.E.I. earns U.S. University Award
Stewart among athletes honored by Plymouth State
PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Andrew Stewart of O’Leary, P.E.I. was a recipient of a 2009-10 Panther Award for athletics during a ceremony at Plymouth State University recently. Stewart is a member of the university men’s hockey team.
Each of the university’s 19 athletic teams, plus the athletic training program, presents a Panther Award to the individual in their program “who best represents Plymouth State on the field, in the classroom and in the community,” with each of the teams setting its own specific criteria for the award.
Stewart is a junior at the university, majoring in business administration.
He collected six goals and 17 assists in 27 games last season for the Panthers.
The six-foot, 185-pound forward attended Hoosac School in New York, graduating in 2007, before going to Plymouth State.
The Panthers finished the regular season with a 12-5-1 record, good enough for third place in the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference.
They were 17-9-1 overall.
The Panthers reached the conference semifinals, where they lost 6-1 to Salem State College.
