College Counseling
The number one reason students attend Hoosac is to get prepared for and gain entrance to college that best suits their needs, strengths, and goals. Hoosac's role in the college admission process is extensive and is geared not only to helping students get into the college of their choice, but making sure that the student chooses the right college. Our college counseling approach can be summarized as student centered and match driven.
All VIth formers participate in class, small group and individual sessions with our director of college counseling to guide them in managing the application process and formulating application strategies, producing resumes and the application essay. Group sessions also help them with all aspects of standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT, SATII and TOEFL). Beginning in January, our director of college counseling also meets individually and in groups with the Vth form to begin the college search.
Parents are kept closely involved with their child’s college application process starting with being sent a summary of their child’s preliminary list in the third trimester of his or her Vth form year along with an informational packet explaining all aspects of the college application process.
